The CF-Mechanism is an upgrade for Emtek passage and privacy knobs or levers. CF stands for "Concealed Fastener". A standard Emtek passage or privacy set will have two visible screwheads on the interior rosette. The CF-Mechanism conceals those screwheads for a nice, clean appearance. (Emtek dummy handles always come standard with concealed screws.) In addition, the CF-Mechanism also comes with a 28-degree rotation latch. Refer to the sample images below for the appearance of a standard handle versus a handle with the CF-Mechanism upgrade.
